Clint Smith is a fantastic spoken word poet. In his poem, "Aristotle," Smith speaks about resilience in the face of immeasurable odds and overcoming racial boundaries. I love working through this task with my students in the beginning of any novel that can relate back to the theme of race, culture, and identity. This can also be a great jumping off assignment for an analytical poetry unit. Included in this bundle is: a fun alphabetizing assignment to get students thinking about diction, two sets of critical thinking questions, and a transcript of the poem itself.
