PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This activity uses analysis and performance to teach students about vivid language, imagery in particular. After examining elements like specificity, concreteness, action verbs, imagery and figurative language in Homer's account of Poseidon's sinking of Odysseus' raft in Book 5, students create movements and sounds that re-create Odysseus' dramatic experience. Teachers, divide Homer's passage into 6-8 sections and assign one section to each group of 2-3 students. After the groups have analyzed and re-enacted their respective passages, the class comes together and performs the whole scene.
