This Common Core reading literature lesson asks students to analyze and evaluate multiple interpretations of a literary work. In this lesson, students will use a graphic organizer to analyze a written text and a recorded production of the same work. They will note differences such as changing, adding, or deleting characters, scenes, or events. A graphic organizer is provided for this lesson. Prior to teaching the lesson it is recommended to read the literature in its entirety (i.e., Hamlet) or read one act and scene at a time and then watch the video clip. Due to time restraints, only certain acts and scenes are provided in the lesson. In lieu of specific numbered Periodic Reviews with included text, specific reviews for this skill for use with your existing reading list (taken from the CCSS Appendix B) have been provided. In addition to the lesson, there are numerous pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after the Common Core assessment items (texts can be modified/replaced with specific/appropriate classroom literature).
