This Common Core reading literature lesson requires students to analyze the impact of word choices in text. In this lesson, students will read a passage noting word choices (such as as connotations, figurative language, or setting), and then analyze why the author chose these words. Finally, they will describe the tone of each word choice and infer the meaning of the passage. In addition to the lesson, there are numerous pages of Independent Practice and review with questions modeled after the Common Core assessment items.
