I have been following along with the MAISA units for writing, and I realized that my students weren't getting how to look at a claim and analyze it. That is why I created this two-day lesson. The beginning pages are claims about year-round schooling. Eight claims are for it and eight claims are against it. They have not been proofread on purpose so that students can take that also into consideration when they are analyzing the claim.
At the bottom of the last claim, you will find a Analyzing Arguments page to handout to the students.
The next two pages are outlines for lessons with "I can..." statements for the students.
The last two pages are the Pacing Guides I had to turn in with my lesson plans for my district. They include the different Common Core Standards that are being used, the "I can..." statements the students are able to successfully complete in the framework of the lesson, and Instructional strategies and applications in the classroom.
