“Animal Testing: Scientific Research or Cruelty to Animals?” Close Reading Activity (4 Pages): During this scaffolded close reading activity, students will first read the article to get the gist of what is happening and will use this information to write an objective summary of the article. In the second read, students will dig deeper into the article to analyze the information and evidence that the author uses in the article to determine the author’s point of view on animal testing

Extended Writing Activity (7 Pages): This extended response activity requires students to determine the author’s point of view and explain how the evidence/information the author used in the article helped them infer the point of view. Before students begin writing, there is an activity that allows them to analyze the writing prompt and writing samples to determine the criteria for their writing composition. A self and peer assessment has also been included.

“Animal Testing: Scientific Research or Cruelty to Animals?” Assessment (2 Pages): This assessment contains six multiple choice questions that cover context clues, author’s point of view, and citing textual evidence. the story. Students must write a one sentence justification to support their answer choice. In addition, there are two constructed response questions. This allows students the choice of which constructed response they want to answer.•••Answer Key is provided.•••
