What an engaging activity that your students will love! What could be better than learning through reading directly from the soldiers at war? This activity set includes a one page reading about the postal system during the Civil War and five fascinating primary source letter excerpts for students to analyze. Students are required to address key concept comprehension questions about each soldier's letter. This activity can be done individually or it can be easily broken up into paired work or groups.
As a bonus activity after reading the letters students choose a side and write his/her own letter as a Confederate or Union Soldier outlining the difficulties of war.
This activity would work fantastic with the versatile Instagram from a soldier activity also posted at Instructomania.
