This lesson requires students to analyze real-world data and to make decisions based on the data while incorporating practice with calculating unit rates. Students can play the "Salary Cap Game," which requires students to calculate points-per-dollar ratios to construct a fantasy basketball team. Groups of students can work together to make a roster of players that provide the most bang for the buck. I have used this lesson with great success in grades six through nine. Have fun and may the best team win!
