What better way to connect students with literature than through the music they love? In this novel study for Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, students will be able to analyze each part of the novel by listening to, annotating, explaining, and presenting different songs that closely correlate with the novel on many levels. As they read, students will collaborate in small groups to critically analyze songs according to the characters, plot elements, and themes in Fahrenheit 451. They will then present their analyses to the rest of the class while the audience takes notes on their findings. For the culminating activity, students will write their own song that accurately captures a character’s voice from the novel and reflects an important message/theme that the novel contains.
