Students typically want to use Wikipedia as a source for their academic research and don't understand why teachers don't accept it. In this activity, students listen to an NPR story entitled "Wikipedia Policies Limit Editing Haymarket Bombing" and respond. They explore the idea of truth and the importance of using multiple sources when doing research. They also respond and reflect on several specific quotes from the story.
Standards addressed: communication, research
This is a great, short assignment to get kids thinking critically about their choice of sources before doing a research project. This is also great as a starting place for a class discussion on media consumption, truth, and history.
