This structure will allow your students to think "deeply" about a poem. The tasks that students do will help them to interact and connect to a poem in a way that is often difficult for students. They will explore the poem first with a preview strategy, interpret selected parts of the text, review stanza, determine meaning based on context clues, and by thinking "about" the poem.
This could be a great tool for students to work on independently or with a partner. The discussions that students could have with one another and the whole class will help to build confidence in your students with reading and understanding poetry.
** Some teachers I work with assign this as homework - and then discuss it at the start of class the next day. Some have them do it in class in a small group. Try it out in a variety of ways.
** I have MORE of these that I am posting - so if you like this, you will like the others! I try to make them all different and get students to tackle various skills and thought processes.
