Have students closely analyze and evaluate the rhetorical appeals in an excerpt from Act 1 of 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose. We watch the original black and white film first from 1954 and then return to scene from each act to closely analyze the moves made by characters as they persuade each other of the guilt or innocence of the boy on trial. (Ethos, logos, pathos and various logical fallacies would need to be taught prior to starting this text.)
If you want activities for each act, see my unit materials for the play. This activity is included in that packet.
