Whether you are just introducing, need to review or remediate, or are wrapping it up, this page will work for you and your students.
This is a very flexible page that can be paired/coupled with any other text structure activity and it can also be a great reference page for future use/activities.
Students will read a definitions page for text structures such as cause/effect, problem/solution, compare/contrast, descriptive, and sequence. The definition page includes tips/guidelines for determining each particular structure. They will then read a few given/common key words associated with each text-type. Next, there is a space to list other key words associated with these structures. An "other" space is provided in order to fit your teaching needs.
Students will then read a text provided by the teacher or chosen by themselves. They will then determine the text structure and make a check-mark choice. Finally, they will use text evidence and add an explanation in support of their choice.
One page is for four entries and one is for five. Each page has an option for grading and one does not. Designed for multiple-uses, multi-use.
Flexible use options:
-use daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed throughout the year
-use as a do now, bell-ringer, or opening activity
-use as part of a lesson or to review throughout the year
-use to supplement online resources or teacher purchased texts with short excerpts
-use for remediation/intervention
