This resource is aligned with NGSS MS ESS1-3

MS-ESS1-3. Analyze and interpret data to determine scale properties of objects in the solar system.

Students will gather and analyze data from QR codes, websites, slide shows, and hands-on activities. After gathering data, the students will analyze and interpret data.

This resource is includes two labs, a nonfiction article, interactive notebook flaps, a slide show and more. Students will use computational thinking to analyze data and learn more about the properties of the objects in our solar system.  

The informational text article is aligned with the CCSS for 6th grade Reading Informational Text. Students love my high interest nonfiction passages!

The labs include simple materials such as rope, paper, string and tape. In these labs students will create models to help them understand the data better.  Students will collect data from reputable websites using QR codes or clickable links. This resource also includes an assessment (quiz) in the style of end of year assessments. This is a perfect unit for students to compare properties of the solar system such as size and composition. NGSS MS ESS1-3

Science Concepts In this Unit Include:

Distance of planets in our solar system from the Sun

Comparing Sizes of planets in our solar system

Properties and characteristics of each plane

Scale and properties of objects in our solar system
