Here is a great way to have your students analyze one of the most famous primary sources in U.S. history, the Gettysburg Address. This assignment includes 7 questions, each one asking students think carefully about the meaning and significance of the words used in the speech. (The 8th question is an opinion question.) With this assignment students will not only gain a better understanding of Lincoln's speech, but they will also develop their primary source analysis skills.
The first page of the document includes the full text of the Gettysburg Address. Pages 2 and 3 have the questions and spaces for written answers.
