This inquiry based project is a unique way for students to research their heritage and learn about their ancestry. This includes researching their ancestry and interviewing family members to support their project. Students are given the opportunity to collect information from primary and secondary sources. This will fit well into any writing unit involving personal narratives. This is intended to be a simple project for students to start the exploration of their own heritage.
This project is a great beginning of the year (or end of year) language arts and social studies (historical research) activity. This cross curricular project includes graphic organizers, an assessment tool, student samples, extensions (culminating activities) and teacher lesson delivery hints.
