The anchor wall is a different style of a word wall. Instead of having the individual letters A-Z you use the sounds of the words as an anchor. For instance, “ai” is a heading for one part of the wall. Next to “ai” is a picture of rain, and the word underneath. You then will anchor words to “ai” that have the same sound, or spelling. Some words I anchor to “ai” are said, again, pair… When a student needs help spelling a word you tell them “it anchors to rain” They then will look under ai and find the word they need. This makes it easier for them to find the word they need because it is being identified by a similar sound or spelling, not just the first letter.
