In lieu of a formal interview, Tours & Co. has requested that job candidates submit an original travel brochure. The product includes directions, required sites, a rubric and four brochure templates.

Create a Timeline of Ancient China

Timelines are a very important tool to use to visualize major events in a given period in history. Students will create a timeline of important events in ancient Chinese history between 1700 B.C.E. – 300 C.E. Students will include seven significant events from the time period. The product includes specific and clear requirements and rubric.

Geography of China: Real Estate Advertisement or Commercial

Your students will assume the role of a real estate agent in order to convince potential homebuyers to move to a region in China. Your students can create a commercial that would be on TV or an advertisement that would be found in a magazine or newspaper. The product includes an introduction, six requirements, five advertising strategies, two rubrics and an answer key, along with templates and a planning guide.

Create Currency for a Chinese Dynasty

Your students are artisans who live in ancient China. They have recently been hired by the emperor of a chosen dynasty to create a currency to reflect the daily life and culture of the dynasty. The product includes a detailed direction sheet with seven requirements, suggested topics and a one-page rubric, along with four currency templates (1/2 page and full page options). The product also includes a two-page chart to help students understand the currency of the United States Dollar and a teacher answer key.

Create a Newspaper for a Chinese Dynasty

This project gives students the opportunity to delve deep into the culture and history of a chosen Chinese dynasty. Students can choose to focus their newspaper on one of the following dynasties: Qin, Han, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan or Ming. The product comes with a detailed explanation of each component required in the newspaper and a detailed rubric. Students will include the following components in their newspaper: title, news stories, editorial, interview, advertisement, Dear Abby and an obituary. This is a project that gives your students the opportunity to be creative, but their writing must be based on historical evidence. Chinese Discoveries & Inventions: Create a Festival Brochure

The Festivals and Events Committee will be hosting the first annual festival to celebrate the achievements (discoveries & inventions) of Chinese dynasties. All aspects of the festival have been inspired by those achievements. The purpose of the festival is to teach people about the achievements and to celebrate and enjoy them. The task of your students is to create a festival brochure in order to inform the public of the activities during the festival. This is a fun way for students to show off what they learned about Chinese discoveries and inventions. The product includes an explanation and list of specific requirements and topics and a rubric, along with four brochure templates.

Create a Visual of the Shang Social Pyramid

Students will work in groups of three to create a visual to represent the social structure of the Shang Dynasty. They'll include a creative layout that will portray the interaction and relationship between the social groups. Additionally, they'll include written information and colorful illustrations to give viewers a clear understanding of the status, roles and responsibilities of each social group. Help Wanted Ad: Chinese Philosopher Needed

Your students live in ancient China and they have been chosen by the emperor to design a Help Wanted Ad - Philosopher Needed - for Legalism, Daoism or Confucianism. The product includes a brief introduction explaining the activity, a list and explanation of requirements and a rubric. This activity really helps history come alive for students! It also helps students develop the skill of using historical evidence in their writing, along with incorporating their creative touches.

Student Talk Show: Chinese Philosophers

The talk show that your students will create will include a host who will ask the deep and engaging questions and three guests (founders of the Chinese philosophies) who will answer in an interesting and detailed way. Your students will improve upon skills such as public speaking, collaboration, writing and research. Hero or Villain Project: Qin Shihuangdi

Your students will learn that Qin Shihuangdi was a complex historical figure who had both a positive and negative impact on ancient Chinese society. He had many wonderful accomplishments, yet he was also responsible for many negative actions as well. Students will choose to create a poster or write a dialogue between two historical figures to determine if the emperor should be considered a hero or villain. The product includes an explanation and list of requirements for both options (poster or dialogue), a note-taking guide and two rubrics.

RAFT Writing Project: Qin Shihuangdi

There are many different viewpoints regarding the first emperor of China, Emperor Qin Shihuangdi (Qin Shi Huang). The task of your students is to take on the role of a person and write about the impact that Emperor Qin had on the Chinese. RAFT is an acronym for Role – Audience – Format – Topic.

Compare and Contrast the Qin and Han Dynasties

Due to advances in time travel technology, Qin Shihuangdi, the founder of the Qin Dynasty and Liu Pang, the founder of the Han Dynasty will appear in your classroom this week. They are going to have an argument and disagree about the time period in history that should be considered the best to live in. They will argue in a respectful, yet firm and confident manner. Students will work in pairs. One of them will write from the perspective of Qin Shihuangdi and the other from the point-of-view of Liu Pang. The speech will be in the form of a dialogue. The product includes requirements, guidelines and a rubric.
