This resource is my newest Interactive Notebook and it's here and brimming with lessons to teach ancient China in a fun and comprehensive way that includes multiple modalities and so many activities I can’t shown them all. Cover from early Paleolithic man, through the 5 dynasties of the ancient realm, into cultural items such as the new year, calendar, festivals, and more, and don’t forget the Great Wall and Silk Road as well.
This Ancient China Interactive Notebook includes 15 lessons and totals over 500 pages of material.
Each lesson takes 1-5 days to cover, making this a comprehensive unit which includes original articles, multiple foldable crafts, cloze notes, maps, and lots of opportunities for writing and creative expression.

Included in this Ancient China Interactive Notebook are lesson plan suggestions, full color examples, multiple foldable products, original articles, engaging activities, a multiple choice and a unit test, a study guide, and 3 different review games to play before the big wrap up. Everything is included in color and in black and white to assist with your printing and budgeting needs.
Lesson 1: Geography of China includes a map, cloze notes, 2-column notes, a Q&A foldable, a checklist rubric, a study guide, and an exam. It also includes a supplemental Get to Know China: Geography PDF that helps students identify and label their maps.
Lesson 2: Ancient Chinese Vocabulary includes 6 vocabulary strategies, two lists of vocabulary words (21 words total) with definitions, flashcards, a crossword, word search, word scramble, and exams. Cover just one list or both. All the parts are needed to cover it your way.
Lesson 3: Ancient China Time Line includes a foldable time line with a pocket to store it in. It covers the beginning of early man in China up through the Han Dynasty.
Lesson 4: Early Man in Ancient China looks at Paleolithic and Neolithic man in ancient China. It contains one original article, a foldable craft, a comprehension Q&A, and an optional assignment.
Lesson 5: The Ancient Dynasties is a section covering the five dynasties of the ancient period (Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin, and Han) as well as the Warring Period. This section features six original articles, two versions of a flip book (one with Cloze notes), a board game, and one optional assignment.
Lesson 6: Daily Life in Ancient China looks at how men, women, and children functioned within ancient Chinese society. You’ll find one original article, a mini book, and one optional assignment located in this section.
Lesson 7: Religion Among the Chinese is next and it examines the various religions at play in the ancient Chinese dynasties. This section features a two-page original article, a Venn diagram, one foldable craft, a writing assignment, and one optional assignment.
Lesson 8: This lesson covers Confucius as well as Chinese Writing. It not only looks at Confucius, who he was, what he did, and what he believed, but it also briefly examines the art of calligraphy and how the Chinese write. It features an original article, has maxims from Confucius to evaluate and reflect upon, includes a comprehension activity, and features a writing craft with Chinese glyphs centered around Confucius’ beliefs.
Lesson 9: The Chinese Calendar includes a look at the calendar the Chinese created, how it works, and which zodiac they follow. It also has a reading on Chinese new year as well. Two original articles, one spinner, a foldable craft, calendar game, and one optional assignment round out this section.
Lesson 10: The Lantern Festival builds off lesson 9 and features a look at the festival that ends the new year celebration. One original article, one foldable craft, a paper lantern craft, and another optional assignment concludes this section.
Lesson 11: The Chinese Dragon is lesson 11 and it features a look at the dragon and its importance in history. It also includes a math extension as the number 9 is important to dragons in China. One original article, one comprehension activity, a fun Cootie Catchers foldable game, and a 5 page look at the power of nines makes this a fun and versatile lesson.
Lesson 12: The Great Wall of China is next and this lesson talks about this history and construction of the wall. One original article, two foldable crafts, a mini book, and another optional assignment round out this look at the Great Wall of China.
Lesson 13: The Silk Road is the final lesson of new material. An original article, a map, a puzzle, one beautiful game, and an optional assignment sum up this incredible book.
Lesson 14: Ancient China Review Games features not one, not two, but three separate games you can play with your students to summarize this extensive study. A quiz show and a Bingo game are both included in the zip file and a game of Chinese dominoes is included in the notebook. Any or all three will help your students review and practice before the exam. If you would just like Bingo by itself, you can get that here.
Lesson 15: Ancient China Assessments includes a three-page study guide with an answer key, as well as a 3-page multiple choice exam and a 3-page comprehensive exam including identification, fill in the blank, short answer, and an essay, etc. Both exams also include the answer keys as well.
