PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will begin by using a reading strategy to gather information about the three major philosophies of ancient China: Confucianism, Daoism and Legalism. In order to practice the skill, they will investigate modern day scenarios in order to make educated predictions about how a leader subscribing to each of the philosophies would react in that scenario. They will conclude by planning their ultimate society based on a particular breakdown of the three philosophies and debate the merits of a proper structure. (could take anywhere from 1-3 days, depending on how deep you want to go)

In this lesson, students will use independent evaluation skills to critique the methods by which China has been ruled at various points in their history. Rather than just memorizing the descriptions, students will critique the various ruling philosophies China has utilized as well as other fictional societies. Being able to apply the information from the ancient world to modern situations will help them not only only learn the material but foster meaning to how other societies have run their countries.
