This lesson is an activity that addresses several different learning styles and serves as an excellent introduction and overview of early Chinese civilizations, concentrating on the concept of "The Mandate of Heaven" and how it connects to modern day Chinese society. It introduces important content vocabulary and allows students to interact with primary and secondary sources. It requires students to make inferences (hypotheses), support answers with evidence, and compare and contrast. It has been successfully used in an AP World History class, but could just as easily be edited for any Global History or World History course. It usually requires two to three days to complete.
