I created this activity to integrate Social Studies into my ELA curriculum. The included resources can work with almost any civilization you are studying.
This book club is generally one of my students’ favorites (we do several book clubs a year). The first year I used this book club, it led to some great discussions with students about what is a good source and whether their book club selections were good sources for their Social Studies research projects. I capitalized on these discussions and have included resources for you to do so as well.
The book suggestions are closer to a grade three/four reading level, but when I use the books with stronger readers I require more analysis, so they still work for my students. The handouts/worksheets can also all be used with any book you are assigning your students. The entire file is viewable in the preview, so please take a look to see if this product will work for your students.
If you are looking for other cross-curricular, higher-order thinking, or project-based resources that work with any ancient civilization, check out my ancient civilization formative assessment questions, Build an Ancient Town project, Ancient Inventions lesson, or my Antiquity vs. Today research project.
