This is a 12 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on Ancient Civilizations - Key Figures - Herodotus. Each of the slides are editable so you can change it to fit your individual needs.
Sometime around the year 425 BC, the writer and geographer Herodotus published his magnum opus: a long account of the Greco-Persian Wars that he called “The Histories.” Before Herodotus, no writer had ever made such a systematic, thorough study of the past or tried to explain the cause-and-effect of its events.
After Herodotus, historical analysis became an indispensable part of intellectual and political life.
Scholars have been following in Herodotus’ footsteps for 2,500 years. There are people who call Thucydides “the first historian” and Herodotus “the first liar.” But no matter how one judges his reporting, Herodotus will likely get credit for taking a dry political story and turning it into literature.
The presentation covers the following:
Origins of “The Histories”
Logographies & Autopsies
His Works Divided
Legacy of “The Histories”
End of Presentation
This is one of several "companion" power point presentations that I offer on...Ancient Civilizations.
