This is a 15 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on Ancient Civilizations - Rome & the Rise of Christianity. Each of the slides are editable so you can change it to fit your individual needs.

The story of Christianity’s rise to prominence is a remarkable one. The story of its progression from a tiny, persecuted religion to the established religion in the medieval West is nothing short of impressive.

It's the persecution that actually served as the impetus for the spread of the Christian gospel message. Much of what is known about that time comes from the New Testament Bible, the Book of Acts. Josephus, a prominent Jewish historian and non-believer’s, writings validate much of the accounts of the persecutions of the early followers of Christianity.

Christians were first, and horribly, targeted for persecution as a group by the emperor Nero in 64 AD. A colossal fire broke out at Rome, and destroyed much of the city. Rumors abounded that Nero himself was responsible.

To divert attention from the rumors, Nero ordered that Christians were the cause of the fire and should be rounded up and killed. Some were torn apart by dogs, others burnt alive as human torches. Over the next hundred years or so, Christians were sporadically persecuted. By the mid-3rd century emperors initiated intensive persecutions.

The presentation covers the following:

Emperor Nero
Reasons for Persecutions
Pagan Persecution
Christian Martyrs
Blaming the Christians
Roman Toleration?
Other Persecuted Cults
Emperor Trajan
Constantine’s Conversion
Triumph of Christianity?
