This is a great project which can be used as a final, end of year assessment. Or it can also be adapted and used anytime throughout the year as a hands-on project.
Originally geared towards ancient civilizations, the project has students taking on the role of archeologists. Students research important artifacts for a civilization, depending on the current topic being studied in class. Students are then given with the opportunity to show case their writing and creativity by designing a poster or actual replicas of the artifacts they chose to research.
Included in the packet:
-Explanation of the project
-Several pages designed for students to take notes as they research, with space added to sketch each artifact
-A detailed rubric for grading final projects
Make this project fun and adapt it in appropriate ways for your classroom and school setting! The first time I did it with my students, I involved the vice principal and had her serve as the final judge. A local museum even donated tickets to give away as a prize to the winner.
