Ancient Egypt: Fun and Engaging Projects

SUBJECT AREA: Social Studies, Ancient Civilizations
LEVEL: Upper Elementary, Middle School

Are you looking for some new and exciting ways to spruce up your unit on Ancient Egypt? Use these resources to get your students excited about the Nile River, Mummies, and the gods and goddesses of Ancient Egypt!

This package quickly became one of my all time best sellers, and it contains a variety of resources to spice up your unit on Ancient Egypt. Very little teacher prep is required – simply print and teach! All activities are classroom tested and include detailed handouts, templates, and rubrics!

This package includes the following:

Nile River Cube Project: Students use provided handouts of information on the Nile River to create full color, informational, 3D cubes. Completed cubes can be hung from the classroom ceiling, or stacked to create a giant pyramid
for classroom display! Template and Rubric included!

Modern Day Tomb Collection Project: Students learn about the things left behind in tombs by the Ancient Egyptians, and then create Modern Day Tomb Collections for themselves that include descriptions and illustrations of the things they think are most important. This excellent creative writing activity makes a beautiful hallway display, and is a great way to learn about your students and what they value! Rubric included!

Mummification Wheel Project: Students read about the mummification process on included informational handouts, and create visual mummification wheels that outline the process. A fun and engaging way to learn about mummification! Rubric and Template included!

Hieroglyphic Cartouche Pendant Project: Students use shrink plastic and their knowledge of hieroglyphics to create beautiful pendants displaying their name in this Ancient Egyptian written form. A supply list is included. Students will also need a hieroglyphic translation sheet, which can be easily found for free on the internet.

Egyptian Gods Foldable Library Pockets: Students create a library pocket style foldable describing the different Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. Students cut out, fold, and glue the library pocket together. Students then describe each God on the included lined paper sheet, and insert the sheet into the library pocket. The square with the God’s name gets glued on the front, with a student illustration of the God. Students love this activity because it is hands on and different. Teachers love this activity because the completed library pockets are both beautiful and informative. A library pocket template for Seth, Isis, Osiris, Re, Anubis, and Horus are included, as well as a black template. A page of information on these Gods and Goddesses is also included!

Ancient Egyptian Scrapbook Project: A detailed handout explaining the project is included. Students pretend they take a time machine back to Ancient Egypt, and create a scrapbook documenting their travels. To do this, students must research important information about Ancient Egyptian locations. They then create a journal of their travels, and place it together in a scrapbook with pictures and souvenirs. This activity makes an excellent final unit project. Students love this project because it is fun, different, and engaging. Teachers love this project because the final scrapbooks are all individually unique, and really help students to think “outside the box”. Detailed rubric included!

Journal Templates: Creative journal writing page templates are included! Students can write their journals directly onto the templates, cut them out, and glue them into their scrapbooks

Places Visited Templates: There is space on these templates for students to include a picture and description of each place they visit on their journey.

Souvenir ideas A page of ideas to help students think up interesting items to include in their scrapbooks

Postcard Templates: A page of postcard templates that students can choose to design as a souvenir for their scrapbooks!

Ancient Egyptian Word Bank: A long list of Egyptian words to help students make their writing sound authentic!

Journal Writing Prompts: A page of possible journal writing prompts to help students document their journey! These are a great way to help students who struggle with coming up with ideas!
