This is fascinating stuff! First students read a very interesting reading (with visuals) that links Alexander the Great's death to the rise of the Greek Ptolemaic Dynasty ruling over Ancient Egypt. For 300 years, this family became more and more corrupt and absurd, and the reading goes into all of the juicy details. Students complete an organizer and are left with an introduction to Cleopatra, one of the most famous individuals of all time. Then, they watch a great video (link and details for how to access video in different ways included) all about Cleopatra, taking notes about her life and the fact and fiction surrounding it, before answering a discussion question prompt about her legacy. This is always a fun time!
Don't worry about the thumbnails --this is a well organized assignment. If you are looking for a good Alexander the Great intro for this activity, I suggest checking out my "Ancient Egypt: Alexander the Great Comes to Egypt" assignment.
