This unit focuses on a chapter in Social Studies for Ancient Greece (primarily grade 6). The focus is on geography of Ancient Greece, daily life, famous rulers, and city-states like Sparta and Athens.
Product includes powerpoint presentation, fill-in the blank notes that coincide with the presentation, and an end-of-the-chapter test. Also included is a Greek city-state challenge where the class can be broken into small groups for approx. 5 minutes during each lesson to meet and make decisions as a city (the effects of those choices are decided by the teacher each day) and the goal is to have the greatest population by the end of the challenge. The city-states may also choose to invade each other, live peacefully, or plan strategic attacks. I project a map of Ancient Greece on my board with city markers for each of their city-states that grow or shrink based on the decisions they make as a council.
Included is also a short poster-making project for students to create a Gods/Goddess poster based on one they choose to research.
In my classroom, each lesson takes approximately 2 days. This unit was designed with the assistance of a basel product, Scott Foresman "The World" - hence the presence of some page numbers (these can be removed by the buyer when editing the powerpoint).
