Create a Timeline of Ancient Greece

Timelines are a very important tool to use to visualize major events in a given period in history. Students will create a timeline of important events in ancient Greek history between 2000 B.C.E. & 300 B.C.E. Students will include fourteen significant events from the time period. Includes specific and clear requirements and rubric.

Write and Present a Talk Show: Four Forms of Government in the Greek City-States

The talk show that your students will create will include a host who will ask the deep and engaging questions and three guests (famous historical figures who represent the following form of government – monarchy, oligarchy, tyranny and democracy) who will answer in an interesting and detailed way. Your students will improve upon skills such as public speaking, collaboration, writing and research. The product includes a brief introduction, a detailed explanation of the structure of the talk show, a rubric and a list of 12 sample host questions, along with a planning guide and editing checklist.

Athens and Sparta: Compare Two City-States

Due to advances in time travel, an Athenian and a Spartan will appear in your classroom this week! They are going to have a dialogue (written by your students) where they argue over which city-state should be the best to live in. They’ll focus on six (out of ten) categories to argue the point-of-view. Students will have an opportunity to be creative while using historical evidence. They’ll also practice their presentation skills when they present the dialogue with their partner.

Create Currency of Athens

For this creative project, students will design a new currency for Athens. While there is some freedom to design the new currency, they must follow certain guidelines. Their currency will include a mix of drawings and phrases that all relate to the Golden Age of Athens. The product includes directions, required topics, and four currency templates (half page and full page options). Also included is a two-page chart for students to fill out about the dollar bill. Answer key included!

The year is 430 B.C.E. and your students come across a “Help Wanted” ad in the newspaper. Tours & Co. is in need of an experienced, knowledgeable and articulate tour guide to teach tourists about the city of Athens during its Golden Age. Your students will design a travel brochure to teach tourists about Athens during its Golden Age.

The year is 500 B.C.E. and the Council of Elders, the governing body of Sparta, has required that your students, adult Spartan citizens, create a training guide for kids to study before they become Spartan adults.

Persian Wars Newspaper Project

The year is 479 B.C.E., the last year of the Persian Wars. Your students live in Greece and are journalists. They will write newspaper articles such as news stories, editorials, interview and more for a newspaper that focuses on the Persian War. Create a Board Game: The Persian Wars of Ancient Greece

This is a great group project! Students will create a board game for middle school students that will test their knowledge and have them experience life during the time of the Persian Wars in ancient Greece. Festival of Achievements

The Festivals and Events Committee will be hosting the first annual festival to celebrate the achievements and discoveries of Athens during its Golden Age. All aspects of the festival have been inspired by those achievements and discoveries. The purpose of the festival is to teach people about the achievements and to celebrate and enjoy them. Your students will plan the festival by creating a brochure. The product includes eight brochure templates.

Alexander the Great – Four Projects

After learning about Alexander the Great, students will have an opportunity to show off what they learned by completing a project of their choice. The project options include: movie trailer, scrapbook, farewell speech and epic poem. Students can work individually or with a partner depending on their project choice.

Your students will learn that Alexander the Great was a complex historical figure who had both a positive and negative impact on ancient society. He had many wonderful accomplishments, yet he was also responsible for many negative actions as well. Students will choose to create a poster or write a dialogue between two historical figures to determine if the ruler should be considered a hero or villain.

Your students will create a book jacket for the biography of Alexander the Great, which will include the front cover, spine and back cover of the book.

Create a Real Estate Ad or Commercial for Ancient Greece

Your students will assume the role of a real estate agent and will convince potential homebuyers to move to ancient Greece. Your students can create a commercial or an advertisement. The product includes an introduction, requirements, advertising strategies, and two rubrics, along with a planning guide and templates.
