Students review the Classical Period of Ancient Greece, starting with the Battle of Thermopylae and ending with Aristotle's death, by completing a timeline activity and answering 4 questions. There are 22 timeline items and they must be organized chronologically and classified according to a system detailed in the instructions. Students then complete one task for 6 items of their choice and a different task for 4 other items. All instructions are provided in the handout. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction to fill out the pieces in. Answers are provided where appropriate and this could work for a sub!
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--Helots revolt against Sparta
--Athens ruled by 30 tyrants
--Lysistrata written/produced by Aristophanes
--Battle of Plataea
--What do you consider the highest point of Greece’s Classical Period and why? Would historians agree with you, why or why not?
--Compare and contrast 4 different aspects/qualities of Athens and Sparta. Which would you have rather lived in during the Classical Period and why?
***a teacher's note is included in the file describing an alternate way students can complete this activity***
