In this Governments of Ancient Greece lesson, students read about the four major government styles that characterized the ancient Greeks - monarchy, oligarchy, tyranny, and democracy. In each handout, students will learn about the form of government, how it was practiced in ancient Greece, and how it is practiced today. Four videos are also included (via weblink) to highlight the different styles of government.
Students will complete a graphic organizer as they read through each government style!
This can be completed in a variety of ways, and I will leave it to the genius in you to make modifications to make it fit your timeframe. I typically have students work in groups, however each group works on the same style at the same time. Since it is very important that students see the evolution of government in ancient Greece, it is also important they see the connection between these styles of government.
This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!
Included are: 4 class readings on each style of government and 1 graphic organizer for student notebooks or binders.
**This lesson now includes a fun way to recap the four governments of Ancient Greece. Students will complete a "film strip" where they create a title, creative picture, and snappy caption to go with each government. Enjoy!**
