Product Description
This product consists of two primary source essay analysis prompts for high school students who have studied Ancient Greece.

Includes:
1. Essay prompt with excerpt from primary source "Pericles' Funeral Oration"
2. Audio reading of this excerpt that includes explanations in plain English
3. Essay prompt with excerpt from primary sources on Greek slavery practices
4. Grading rubric
5. Two zip files for upload at TeachersWebHost.com* for online composing and assessment
6. Two zip files for upload at TeachersWebHost.com for online multiple-choice reading assessment

My students do one primary source essay in each topic of study after a series of teacher presentations and readings. This is a challenging task that welcomes practice over the year for proficiency. Special care should be taken in the concluding paragraph, which assesses the reliability of the source. This requires some training.

My students take two to three class periods to complete these. The excerpt from Pericles is the standard one everyone does, so that's why there is an audio version with explanations.

The excerpt from sources on Greek slavery is an optional essay students may choose in my courses as their topic capstone task. This is a more difficult text without audio support and is generally reserved for more advanced students.

The two multiple-choice reading task zip files are for more advanced readers. Once uploaded, these can be edited online and audio can be attached. I prefer to have my students submit essays for their primary source analysis, but the multiple-choice measurement could be an option.
