Ancient Greece Unit - Handouts, Activities, and Projects

Ancient Greece has always been a popular Social Studies Unit with my students Many of them are familiar with the Percy Jackson stories, and are instantly engaged when we start talking about the Gods, Goddesses, and Monsters of Ancient Greece!

Perfect for your upcoming Ancient Greece unit, this resource package provides students with everything they need to complete an integrated Social Studies, English, and Art unit on Ancient Greece! I love showing my students the connections between different subject areas, and this unit is a great way to do that!

All Ancient Greece activities included in this resource guide are classroom tested and include creative handouts, information sheets, detailed instructions, templates, and rubrics. Very little teacher prep is needed – simply print and teach!

This creative and engaging package includes the following:Create Your Own Monster Project: Students learn about Mythical Monsters and create Monsters of their own using found objects. Students then use their creative writing skills to write about their creations. These monsters make gorgeous hallway displays!!! A sample monster write-up, Steve the Grass Monster, is included to help inspire students and get their creative juices flowing!

Mythology Puppet Show: Students use their knowledge of Ancient Greek Myths to create Puppet Shows to present to the class. Students must write scripts and create their own puppets. A puppet template is included. A great way to introduce students to a number of Greek mythological tales!

Athens Vs Sparta: Travel Brochure Project: Students learn about life in Athens and Sparta and create a travel brochure of their favorite city. Students present their learning in written and visual forms. A great way for students to compare/contrast these very different cities. This makes for great class discussion!

Odyssey Playbills: Students create playbills for the story. Students must choose famous actors/actresses to play each of the important roles, and defend their choices.

Create Your Own Greek Mask: A detailed set of materials and instructions for students to create papier mache Greek masks. These look amazing hung on the wall, or can be used for dramatic presentations.

Olympian Descriptions: Students use this grid template to help them research the Gods of Mount Olympus. A detailed answer key is included! This chart really helps students keep their facts straight. A great test review tool!

Hero Wanted Poster: Students brainstorm heroic qualities and create a wanted poster for their ideal hero. This makes a great introductory activity to the heroes of Greek Mythology!
