Let's face it, it's hard for the human mind to grasp the order of events that happened thousands of years ago. To most kids, 500 BCE and 300 CE are both a long, long time ago...
When teaching kids about the development of theater, I've often found a visual aid is necessary. A timeline is the perfect activity to put it all in perspective.
This interactive timeline
is designed to fit two notebook pages and features sixteen
historical events. Eight are events for context (non-theater events that give students an idea how civilization developed alongside theater) while the other eight are milestones in theatrical development.
There are three printable JPGs
(one 8.5x11" page each) for students to cut and paste. The third sheet includes instructions and a series of questions for students to answer in the open space on the page based on their completed timelines. The key for these questions is included in the README document. This is a great study activity to introduce early in your Greek Theater unit or to wrap up right before a quiz.
