If you are teaching about Ancient Greece (Ancient Civilizations) then this game will add a new and exciting component to your class! This game can be used as a way to introduce your unit, or as a consolidation at the end. It’s a very involved, fun, strategic, and exciting game.
But this game will require a certain amount of commitment. It takes a bit of set up, and you are going to need to book at least ½ a day for your class to play. I have played this game in periods as short as 2 hours, and I have had games last over the course of 2 days, the class got so involved! It’s a combination of Dungeons and Dragons and Settlers of Catan. The floor of the classroom (or gym) is your game board. And the amount of learning is diverse! The class is divided into groups, each group gets their own city/state (on an island) on which to place their resources. The game lasts up to 10 turns (years), each year having a growth phase (where resources grow), and a war phase (where city/states decide weather to expand their empire through battle... or not).
The package includes the instructions, game cards, and even some possible evaluative tools to use.
If the focus is FUN, then the learning outcomes will be awesome. If you are a Teacher (and maybe a bit of a Gamer), and looking for a unique, involved, and amazing way to start or end your unit, this is a game you should try.
