An in-depth slide show designed to stand alone or supplement a teaching unit on the Ancient Hebrew civilization. This presentation covers from 2000 BC to 71 AD (the eras from Abraham, Israel’s patriarch to the Roman annihilation of Fort Masada) and then looks at the events that led to the modern establishment of Israel as a nation. This is a complete teaching unit on the ancient Hebrews civilization. This presentation highlights the Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economics, and the Social Structure of ancient Israel.
Closely aligned with ELA Common Core Standards for Literacy in Social Studies, this presentation features:
-academic vocabulary and concepts
-pair share and class discussions
-academic writing activities
-standard's based review questions with answers
*It does not cover Christianity or the teachings of Jesus Christ and his disciples. The focus is on the covenant relationship between God and the Hebrew people—what it includes, how it developed, how it was broken, and how it was restored. The ancient Hebrew civilization was not isolated from the rest of the world, so the civilizations that interacted with it are referenced in the presentation—Babylonians, Egyptians, Medes and Persians, Greek, and Romans. A legacy left by the ancient Hebrews for Western civilization is a sense ethics and morals found in the Ten Commandments.
Since Hebrew history is told through stories, a dozen stories have been chosen for this presentation. Using the Presenter’s Mode, I included the notes and references that I use when teaching this subject. These notes are particularly useful for dates and cross references to other ancient civilizations, primary sources and commentary are included in the notes. It is up to the presenter to determine, how in depth to teach for each slide’s presentation. In following the spirit of common core, this presentation is both deep and broad in scope with plenty of opportunities for reflection, discussion and writing. It would be very easy to parlay the 7 writing opportunities into either an essay or a report on the ancient Hebrew civilization. The presentation contains 300 slides, 236 pages of presenter’s notes and more than 100 Biblical masterpieces.
This presentation has also been broken up into 9 smaller sections, which include all the presenter’s notes for that section. If you are interested they are sold separately.
