Create a Timeline: Ancient India

Timelines are a very important tool to use to visualize major events in a given period in history. Students will create a timeline of important events in ancient Indian history between 2500 B.C.E. and 550 C.E. Students will include ten significant events from the time period. Geography of South Asia: Create a Real Estate Advertisement or Commercial

After researching the geography of South Asia, your students will assume the role of a real estate agent. They can work on their own or collaboratively to convince homebuyers to move to an area in the region. Your students can create a commercial that would be on TV or an advertisement that would be found in a magazine or newspaper. There are six pages of informational text that include an introduction and details about each of the five castes (Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, Sudras and Untouchables). Additionally, there are several evidence based questions for each page. A two page answer key is included as well.

Group Project: Create a Visual of the Caste System

Creating visuals for topics in history truly help the content come alive! Your students will work in small groups of three to create a visual that portrays the status, roles and responsibilities of the five castes that made up the caste system in ancient India. Each group member will choose a role (professor, graphic designer or scribe). Two groups will compete against each other at a time for a total of three classroom debates. After researching the life of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, students will have the opportunity to show off what they learned by completing a project. There is a lot of choice involved. Students can work on their own or with a peer and they can choose to either write an illustrated epic poem about his life, create a scrapbook or make a movie trailer portraying the major points of his life. Detailed directions and rubrics for all three types of projects are included.

Gupta Empire Achievements Festival

The Festivals and Events Committee will be hosting the first annual festival to celebrate the achievements of the Gupta Empire. All aspects of the festival have been inspired by those achievements. The purpose of the festival is to teach people about the achievements and to celebrate and enjoy them. As members of the committee, your students will create a festival brochure in order to inform the public of the prizes, workshops, competitions and more at the Gupta Empire Festival. Create Currency for the Gupta Empire

The year is 400 C.E. and your students are artisans who lived in the Gupta Empire.
They have recently been hired by the emperor to create a currency to reflect the culture and achievements of the Gupta Empire. Your students will love this project! Even though their illustrations and writing must be based on evidence, there is a lot of room for creativity. The product includes a detailed direction sheet with seven requirements, suggested topics, a rubric and currency templates. The product also includes a two-page chart to help students understand the currency of the United States Dollar and a teacher answer key. 

Ancient Indian Kings - Design a Biography Book Jacket

One of the best ways to learn about historical figures is by reading biographies. Your students are going to design the book jacket of King Ashoka’s biography. A book jacket includes the front cover, spine and back cover of the book. This is a project that gives your students the opportunity to be creative, but their writing must be based on historical evidence.
