In this India, Emperor Ashoka, and The Spread of Buddhism lesson, students will work in groups (or individually) to learn how Buddhism spread throughout India! Students navigate around the room and read excerpts concerning the spread of Buddhism and Emperor Ashoka's reign over India, then will record information into the related questions on their graphic organizer.
Students will be given a graphic organizer with 4 questions on it (it is part of the preview, check it out!) and they will create more "bubbles" off of this map with information they find from these excerpts. When students read information that addresses one of the questions, they will create a branch off the question.
Variations of this activity could include ALL students reading all 7 excerpts and doing this individually, assigning students to only complete a few excerpts then having students share within a group, or even have students read all - then debrief and compare answers together.
This lesson is great for kinesthetic learners as it gets them up out of there seat and into a more authentic learning environment. It is also an ideal starter to create a more complex writing assignment regarding the spread of Buddhism.
This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom.
