The Ancient Indus Valley Civilization
This 33-page unit will take your students on a quest through the ancient Indus Valley to hone their higher order thinking skills. This unit has everything you need to take your students this exciting adventure through the ancient Indus Valley Civilizations of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro: lesson plans, station images, answer keys, handouts, graphics, and booklet. All the materials are ready for you to use in your class with no extra work required.
It begins in lesson one with an experiential exercise in “brick-making.” Through the process of making their own “bricks” students will understand how archeologists and historians interpret artifacts and draw conclusions about ancient societies.
In lessons two students learn important geographic concepts about the subcontinent and learn how the geographic isolation impacted the culture of the early Indus Valley.
In lesson three, students explore six artifacts and record their findings in the Archeologist Report Notebook. At the end of the lesson, students again use higher order thinking skills to argue which theory is the most plausible for disappearance of the Indus Valley Civilization.
