Product Description
This is a PowerPoint Presentation I created that surveys/introduces the civilization of Mesopotamia. Generally, I use this after students have completed a map of the region. This PowerPoint covers the geography of the region, human-environment-religious interaction, technologies, governments, and the various empires of Mesopotamia (Sumer, Akkad, Babylonia, Assyria). The PowerPoint also contains a short group activity where students analyze parts of Hammurabi’s Code to see its impact on the society of Babylonia. At the conclusion of the Presentation, I have included exit slip questions for students to respond to, which I use as a formative assessment. Following this lesson, I typically incorporate an additional writing assignment for students to respond to Hammurabi’s Code, where they take a stance on whether it was overall a good law system to have in place or a bad law system.
