Sample Pacing of the Lesson
Do Now Anticipatory Set
Students will quickly enter the classroom and begin working on the Do Now Activity. The Do Now activity includes a guided question for the students to answer. This activity will help foster and activate student’s prior knowledge of the subject matter. If time permits, students will engage in a brief pair and share to discuss the findings and we will have a meaningful discussion that discusses what they learned.
Students will watch a video clip of the five themes of geography and fill in a series of guided questions. Students will proceed to work in cooperative pairs to discuss their findings and participate in a classroom discussion.
The Do Now Activity activates prior knowledge and introduce new concepts.
Students will also see some of the challenging words in the do now will be bolded to draw attention. This will indicate the importance of the word.
The teacher will also have the Do Now in a larger font for students that have challenges seeing the documents, provide additional visual aids and restate directions.
Depending on the IEP the teacher may have students only answer one question based on their ability level.
Students will work collaboratively with their peers (time permitting) or work independently to complete a series of guided questions.
As the year progresses, the expectation of questions completed will be on the same playing field as everyone else in the class.
Exit Ticket Activity
Students will complete an exit ticket that encompasses a short writing component.
Students will have five minutes to complete this exit ticket.
Depending on goals of students with IEPS they may have additional time to complete this short assessment or I may only have them complete two out of the four questions depending on their ability levels.
