"The glories of Ancient Rome are explored in ROMAN CITY, a DVD based on David Macaulay's acclaimed book. This animated and live-action video recounts life in Verbonia, a fictional city in Gaul. A well-planned town with all modern conveniences, it is threatened by conflict between conquerors and conquered. Macaulay also visits Pompeii, Herculaneum, Ostia, Nimes, Orange, and Rome, to view actual Roman architecture and engineering greatness." Quote from the PBS website.
This is a study guide with questions to review before the showing of the DVD AND a twelve-question quiz to accompany this acclaimed documentary, which I highly recommend to any teacher who is covering ancient Rome with their class. The video is also available on sites like YouTube.
I have my class take notes, trying to listen for the most profound and important things Macauley says during the video (based on the study questions), and then I allow them to use these notes on the quiz I give them. Answers provided to quiz.
NOTE: This is a Word document that can edited as you wish for your classroom use.
