My students do one primary source essay in each topic of study after a series of teacher presentations and readings. This is a challenging task that welcomes practice through the year for proficiency. Special care should be taken in the concluding paragraph, which assesses the reliability of the source. This requires some training. My students take two to three class periods to complete these.
I usually prefer to have my students compose an essay to analyze these, but the multiple-choice reading assessment provided could be an alternative for more advanced students.
