This US History reading and assessment activity helps address several Common Core ELA Standards that are listed below this introduction and is suitable for Grades 5-8. Students read a historical biography of 1000+ words on Andrew Jackson, the popular and legendary seventh president of the United States and the first “common man” elected to the nation’s highest office. This is Jackson’s lively and exciting life story, beginning with his difficult and dangerous childhood on the frontier and following him through his presidency and beyond.
After the reading are 35 assessment questions that require application of Common Core Standards to a thorough close reading of the biography. Please see the Preview to see the first page of the passage and all the assessment questions.
This resource can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).
