Andrew Jackson compared to Barack Obama and Donald Trump

Andrew Jackson compared to Barack Obama and Donald Trump
Product Description
I struggled for years to get students to engage with Andrew Jackson, but when I asked them to compare him to two presidents that they know about, they suddenly cared. My descriptions in the left hand column are what I really want kids to remember, so those topics generate students' google searches to find out whether Barack Obama criticized the Supreme Court as Jackson did or whether Donald Trump came from an impoverished background like A.J. Students will be more ready to understand the significance of Jackson's bank war, spoils system or Indian removal after they have explored the man in a context that's familiar. Give students the chart and access to computers or smartphones, and let them explore, filling in boxes as they go. Warn them with 10-15 minutes left that they need to have most/all of the Jackson column done, and at least one row completed so the teacher can see their analysis. It is not crucial that they finish the whole thing. There are no "right answers," so I grade it for completion, understanding that some students work more slowly and deserve generous partial credit. (note: I put clip art of the three men as a watermark behind the boxes in my original version to add to the visual appeal of the sheet: If you don't like the pics, or they don't copy well for you, just right click them and delete)
