Many early Australians went droving, moving cattle over vast distances. This meant they were away from family and home for extended periods of time. In 'Andy's Gone with Cattle', a family can only imagine where Andy might be and what he may be experiencing.
The core of this unit is the audio recording which is embedded in a PowerPoint. Also associated with it all is the workbook with practical activities. Students prepare for an investigation of the poem with the 'Before You Read' activities which established the focus and suggest what to expect. The 'As You Read' activities help students investigate the narrative, the voice, the meter and rhyme amongst other things. The 'After You Read' provides an opportunity for students to extend what they have learnt beyond the poem. In this instance, they are encouraged to think of a musical setting of the work.
