Description

Get students out of their seats and writing equations to solve for missing angle measures with this interactive angle relationships scavenger hunt. Students will practice writing equations to determine angles measures given algebraic expressions to represent angles. Students will be able to solve for x or a missing angle given parallel lines cut by a transversal (with congruent or supplementary pairs), interior and/or exterior angle measures of a triangle, interior angle measures of a quadrilateral, and angles that are supplementary. There are 12 practice problems included in the activity. Students begin in different locations around the room and use their answers to find the next problem they must complete. The scavenger hunt is over when students complete all 12 problems and end where they began.

Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles. For example, arrange three copies of the same triangle so that the sum of the three angles appears to form a line, and give an argument in terms of transversals why this is so.
