Product Description

You will have to prepare a lot for this lesson, but the kids LOVE it and learn a lot.

1- Blubber Glove- Glove will have Crisco in it to simulate blubber. Students will place that hand in glove and then in ice water. Students will also place hand in a regular glove and in the water. Students will compare how it feels and discuss how blubber helps arctic animals survive.

2- Bird Beaks- Students will use tongs, clothes pins, tweezers, and oven mitts to pick up different sized items. Students will answer questions on lab sheet about what different types of beaks are useful for different types of food.

3- Eyes- Their vision will be changed ( you must make toilet paper roll goggles - tape rolls to goggles) and they will have to drop bear counters into a cup. They will need to figure out how to adapt to get their item in the glass each time.

4- Mimicry- (Teacher Ran). Students will grab a Fruit Loop out of a bowl multiple times (without talking) and eat. Some red Fruit Loops will have Anise Oil on them and will not taste good. Once students have had multiple trials, have a discussion on if they tasted a red Fruit Loop with the oil. Ask them what color they went for after they tasted red (hopefully a different color). Explain how certain butterflies (Viceroy) that taste good mimic the way others (Monarch) that taste bad look so birds won't eat them.
