Llama, Llama Helping Mama!
This STEM lesson is designed to get students thinking about animals from one of the seven continents, South America and animal adaptations of llamas. This easy STEM activity asks students to work cooperatively with a team to design and test a pack for a pretend llama to carry on a hiking trip. This lesson is intended to get students to think creatively while introducing them to an animal they may not be familiar with, a llama. It is all part of my globally themed lessons to integrate global understanding and learning into everyday curriculum. I have designed this lesson to pair with my Peru Travel Book, which can be found in my TpT store.
This download includes:
1. Two versions of a STEM lesson recording sheet for students to record all parts of the STEM process, one for group work, one for individuals
2. Two versions of a budget planning sheet, differentiated with cost of materials
3. A teacher resource page with book recommendations and YouTube links about llamas
4. Color photo cards from my own travels to show students llamas in Peru
I recommend pairing this lesson with either lessons on animal adaptations or seven continent study, with a highlight on the country Peru in South America. I recommend reviewing information about llamas before starting the lesson to give students some background knowledge and activate creative thinking.
With references to Peru, I also recommend you pair this activity with either my Country Informational Text on Peru or your own resources on the country.
