Animal adaptations are a concept that can be tough to understand. They are actually just like superpowers for the animal, so making this connection helps students understand the concept!
Read aloud the picture book, , by Matt Carr. You can buy this book on Scholastic ($5 for a paperback) or Amazon. In the book the bat becomes a superhero until he realizes all his superpowers are ones that all bats have in common! These are all animal adaptations!
Complete the SUPERBAT page by writing in the three superpowers from the story and an explanation of each one. Students can add more, too! These superpowers (or adaptations) are:
1.Bats have super hearing! They can hear sounds from far away.
2.Bats can fly! They have finger bones and a thumb.
3.Bats use echolocation! They can hear sounds echo back to them.
Students then do their own infographic mini-poster on a 9 x 12 white sheet of
construction paper on the animal of their choice! There is a pre-writing sheet
included for this project.
There are also 2 interactive notebook pages on Animal Adaptations included!
